"Despite initial resistance to the idea, Dr Singh persuaded Prime Minister Narasimha Rao to approve the devaluation in two stages," Dr Ahluwalia noted, adding that these decisions were part of a broader set of reforms aimed at addressing India’s fiscal challenges.
