Taliban fooled US with Doha talks, used window to shore up military with Pakistan's aid, says Amrullah Saleh
FirstpostSpeaking exclusively to CNN-News18, Saleh also squarely blamed Pakistan for helping the Taliban fool the international community by participating in Doha talks, while using that time to shore up military powers. Here are the edited excerpts: Afghanistan’s acting president Abdullah Saleh, who is currently holding the last vestige of the erstwhile US-backed government from Panjashir Valley, said Wednesday that Taliban tricked the world by participating in Doha talks and used that opportunity to fortify its military. Speaking exclusively to CNN-News18, Saleh said that Pakistan made sure that Taliban stays afloat awaiting its time, despite promising to cut all tied with the militant organisation. This was a political decision, not a military or intelligence one… It wasn’t the Taliban who won this war, it was the lack of a political win in Washington which led to this scramble.
