Manipur CM apology: Those indulging in politics in my apology over ethnic strife seeking unrest in Manipur, says Biren Singh
The HinduManipur Chief Minister Nongthombam Biren Singh on Friday accused the Congress of having created the ethnic conflict in the State between the Meitei and Kuki-Zo communities, which erupted into violence in May 2023. Mr. Singh also clarified that his apology to the people of the State on New Year’s Eve was only meant for the victims of the conflict, and not the “terrorists” responsible for it. Mr. Singh said the appointment of the “intelligent and competent” Mr. Bhalla as Manipur’s Governor at a critical time reflected the Centre’s seriousness in resolving the problem in the State. “The government should focus on resolving the crisis and ensuring lasting peace instead of making unfounded allegations,” former Chief Minister Okram Ibobi Singh said.
