Clampdown On Sand Mining: SC Directs Probe Into Illegal Sand Mining Activities Across Rajasthan

The CJI led bench of the Supreme Court Court on Wednesday expressed strong discontent regarding illegal sand Mining in Rajasthan, directing the Central Empowering Committee to conduct a probe towards illegal mining activities in the State of Rajasthan and submit a report along with recommendations within 6 weeks. Collectors & SP's of every District of Rajasthan were also directed to take immediate steps to curb illegal sand mining in the state. Gavai & Surya Kant, a poignant Petitioner-in-person stated that even though a ban had been imposed by the Courts on illegal sand mining in the State, it was evident that the illegalities were still prevalent. If it is happening, we will issue directions look into it and take your suggestions" stated CJI SA Bobde Sand Mining had been earlier banned vide a 2017 Judgment of the Supreme Court.
