Whenever the Congress and poll strategist Prashant Kishor return to news cycles, they often remind one of complex anxious-avoidant relationship dynamics: the anxious person complains that his partner is not responsive enough. In the run-up to the 2017 Uttar Pradesh Assembly election, reports emerged that the Congress and Prashant Kishor were heading for a break-up as some party leaders were not happy with his "style of functioning". In August, 2021, Prashant Kishor quit as Punjab CM Amarinder Singh’s principal advisor, triggering speculation that the poll strategist would now formally join the Congress. This month, days after calling on Sonia Gandhi, Prashant Kishor also met top Congress leaders such as Priyanka Gandhi Vadra, Ambika Soni, P Chidambaram, and Jairam Ramesh over the 2024 general election. When Prashant Kishor earlier worked for the Congress, some top leaders didn’t like him much.
