MK Stalin tables two bills proposing harsher punishment for crimes against women

Tamil Nadu Chief Minister MK Stalin today introduced two amendment bills in the state assembly, aiming to impose harsher punishment for crimes against women. The punishment given for such crimes must serve as a huge warning so that it prevents people from committing such crimes,” he said, adding that his government believed the punishment in such crimes “must be made more stringent.” “The DMK government has been working for the welfare of women, bringing them forward in society, politics and economy. These amendment bills come at a time when the ruling party Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam faced criticism following the the sexual assault at Anna University. All India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam and Bharatiya Janata Party, as well as their respective allies, repeatedly staged protests against the Anna University sexual assault.
