Oracle Fights for More Scraps in Battle Over Google Android

In its heavyweight court fight with Google over the Android operating system, Oracle saw almost all of its claims rejected by judge and jury. In a recent court filing, Oracle says that nine lines of Android code lifted from its Java platform constitute copyright infringement -- even though Android as a whole spans over 15 million lines of code. Previously, Google had filed a motion asking Judge William Alsup make a "judgement as a matter of law," or JWOL, stating that Google's use of the nine lines was "de minimis." Judge and jury did find that Google infringed on Oracle copyrights in copying nine lines of "rangeCheck" code and various other test files. But Oracle says that the nine lines should only be considered in the context the much smaller piece of the Java platform the code was lifted from.
