Petitioner urges court to implement programme supporting unplanned pregnancy
India TodayA petitioner in the Bombay High Court suggested that two programmes providing support to women dealing with unintended pregnancies should be implemented across Maharashtra. Advocate Meenaz Kakalia, appearing for one of the petitioners, said that there are two programmes operating in hospitals run by the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation that offer support to women that find themselves in situations where they are left to deal with the consequences of an unintended pregnancy on their own. Kakalia said that the BMC runs 'Dilaasa Centres' at some of its hospitals, which are crisis intervention centres that have been set up under the National Health Mission for survivors of violence. Kakalia also referred to Disha Centres, which have been set up in 30 civic maternity homes across the city, providing crisis intervention to help women cope with the impact of domestic violence.
