UGC’s Four-Year Undergraduate Program (FYUP) struggles with implementation in Kerala

The Four Year Under Graduate programme, launched in Kerala on July 1, 2024, mandated by the National Education Policy 2020, is facing hurdles in execution. According to Prathap Thevarthottam, an assistant professor, Political Science, University College Thiruvananthapuram, under the four-year degree programme, says the concept is commendable. The question of academic freedom Firoz Khan, assistant professor of Political Science at University College, Thiruvananthapuram, reveals another trend in the implementation of the First-Year Undergraduate scheme. Students perspective Arjun Gopal V, a first-year political science student at University College, Thiruvananthapuram, expresses disappointment with the FYUG programme. Mohammed Rafeeq, state secretary of the All Kerala Government College Teachers, highlighted a significant difference in the implementation of the Four-Year Undergraduate Program in Kerala compared to other States.
