Prominent Bengal personalities protest after human rights group denied stall at book fair

The Hindu

In a show of solidarity with the human rights group, the Association for Protection of Democratic Rights, which was denied a stall at the Kolkata International Book Fair, eminent personalities of West Bengal have written an open letter to the organiser of the fair, protesting its decision. This is the first time in the 48 years of the book fair that Bengal’s well-known human rights organisation, the APDR, was denied a stall. We feel that imposing these new rules and conditions is anti-characteristic of the Kolkata Book Fair.” They urged the guild to reconsider their decision and to ensure that APDR got a respectable stall at the Kolkata Book Fair. The court said the book fair was a private event and the guild a private body, hence they could not intervene in the stall allotment.
