SCR track maintainers’ seek justice
South Central Railway Mazdoor Sangh held protest demonstrations outside offices of the Divisional Railway Manager in Secunderabad, Hyderabad, Nanded, Guntur, Guntakal and Vijayawada demanding filling up of vacant posts for track maintainers or gangmen, better working conditions and pay in view of the increased workload on Friday. Sankara Rao and other leaders addressed the protests where they highlighted the vacancies of track maintainers posts not being filled, non-creation of additional posts for double, triple and quadruple lines being built in various sections and demand for six-hour duties in two shifts given the heavy work. The request for having two track maintainers during the night patrolling is not being accepted due to the large number of vacancies despite several representations submitted to the senior railway officials. “The Minister of Railways paying ‘lip sympathy’ to track maintainers without accepting any of the demands made in view of the increased workload is not justified,” they said.
