Kerala CM Vijayan meets PM Modi in Delhi, likely to discuss buffer zones near protected forests

India Today

Kerala chief minister Pinarayi Vijayan met Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Tuesday at the latter’s residence in New Delhi. The CM is expected to discuss the buffer zone issue with PM Modi during their meeting. The Kerala government had decided to approach the Supreme Court seeking a relaxation in the order which states them to maintain a buffer zone of one kilometre around forests and sanctuaries across the country. The areas near forests in Kerala are witnessing widespread protests against the proposal to demarcate the one-km buffer zone adjacent to protected areas.
