How it took 44 years for Mukhtar Ansari conviction

With over 60 criminal cases pending against him, Mukhtar Ansari, the former five-time MLA from Uttar Pradesh's Mau, had seen convictions, acquittals, and pending trials, one after another. The Allahabad High Court, in September 2022, reversed a trial court's decision and sentenced Mukhtar Ansari to seven years for threatening a jailer where he was lodged with a revolver in 2003. Mukhtar Ansari was also named in the case of kidnapping and murder of coal tycoon Nand Kishore Rungta alias Nandu Babu, whose trial is still pending.
