IND v NZ, World Cup semi-final: Hope those who spoke about Mumbai pitch will shut up, says Sunil Gavaskar
India TodayLegendary Sunil Gavaskar did not hold back as he slammed critics of the Wankhede Stadium pitch that was used for the World Cup 2023 semi-final between India and New Zealand on Wednesday. India vs New Zealand: Highlights | Scorecard | Speaking to the host broadcasters after India outclassed New Zealand and reached the World Cup 2023 final, Sunil Gavaskar said the ‘moronic’ pitch detractors need to shut up, highlighting 724 runs were scored on the Wankhede Stadium pitch in the first semi-final. Allegations of the curators opting for a “used surface” at the Wankhede on the recommendation of the host team sprung up on Wednesday morning after it emerged that the pitch that was used twice in the World Cup before was going to be used for the semi-final. A British newspaper claimed that ICC pitch consultant Andy Atkinson, who has been working with the local curators to oversee the preparations of pitches for the World Cup, was not happy with the change of pitch and that he flew to Ahmedabad to oversee the pitch preparation for the final.
