A book from Karadi Tales’ new series takes children through Delhi

The Hindu

It is ironical that Letters to Ammi, a tale about Delhi, is written by a Mumbaikar. But Aftab Yusuf Shaikh, 29, the writer, who is a teacher of English, says, “I feel a strange connection with Delhi.” He can’t quite put his finger on what it is, but says it could be the history: “I feel like under the ground, there are centuries of stories and people. “I know it better than many in Delhi.” The idea came about when he’d visited Delhi four or five times a few years ago, and lived in a lodge just over the Jama Masjid post office. The story weaves its narrative through Delhi’s many attractions, in the form of letters that a little girl writes to her mother. The book, in Aftab’s words, “Is meant for anyone who has been to Delhi and has a connection with it, children and adults.” Letters to Ammi is available at karaditales.com, ₹399; also in the series: Varsha’s Varanasi
