Kerala High Court scraps state judicial panel to look into Munambam Waqf land dispute

In a setback to the Kerala government, the High Court has set aside the judicial commission appointed by the state in the Munambam Waqf land dispute. The Kerala government appointed the judicial commission, led by former High Court Justice CN Ramachandran Nair, in November last year. The dispute revolves around land in Munambam, Ernakulam, where more than 600 families, mostly Christians, are contesting the Kerala Waqf Board’s claim over their property. The land was gifted to Farook College by a Siddique Sait in 1950, and the college contended that the land was never a Waqf property but was instead transferred through a conditional gift deed.
