Small leaved plants - Gardening Australia

ABC

SERIES 35 | Episode 32 What makes cacti shrivel up? TAMMY: Cacti hold a lot of water reserves in their stems, helping them tolerate drought, but there is a limit for how long they can survive without water. SOPHIE: In plant breeding, parent plants are chosen for specific desirable traits. When this works, this is called hybrid vigour, because the plant is more productive, more resistant to disease, and generally grows more vigorously. The reduced surface area means fewer stomata or pores, so less water is lost through transpiration.
