Google CEO Sundar Pichai takes a jibe at Apple, says privacy isn't a luxury good
India TodayData privacy is one of the biggest and most important topics of our times. And now, in the backdrop of a data privacy focussed developer's conference - the Google I/O 2019 - Google CEO Sundar Pichai has defended his company's stand on data privacy saying that Google's approach to the matter is democratic as it is focussed on providing privacy to everyone and not just to those who could afford it. "For us, that means privacy cannot be a luxury good offered only to people who can afford to buy premium products and services," Pichai said in his piece on The Times indirectly pointing towards the extorbitant prices demanded by Apple for its iPhones. Then again at a data conference last year, Cook had said that the big tech companies had created a "data industrial complex" to collect users' personal data that was being weaponised against their rightful owners. It is difficult to trust Google despite everything Pichai said about "privacy not being a luxury good" and about the way his company adopting a more democratic approach towards the matter.
