NCP leader’s close aide surrenders in Beed sarpanch murder case, Opposition calls it staged
The HinduWalmik Karad, a close aide of Maharashtra Cabinet Minister and NCP leader Dhananjay Munde, surrendered before the State Criminal Investigation Department headquarters in Pune on Tuesday in connection with an alleged ₹2 crore extortion case linked to the murder of a village sarpanch. In the video, Mr. Karad said: “I am surrendering before the State CID headquarters in Pune today in a false case filed against me in Kaij police station of Beed district. My name is being dragged into this case falsely for political vendetta.” Following Mr. Karad’s surrender, Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis said: “I had a telephonic conversation with late Santosh Deshmukh’s brother, and I have assured him that all the culprits behind the murder, will face prosecution so he need not worry. Nobody will be spared.” On Mr. Karad’s surrender, the Chief Minister said: “The CID is handling the case without any external pressure.
