Ilaiyaraaja is making headlines for all the wrong reasons. From SP Balasubrahmanyam to Yesudas, many singers took part in the grand event and sang some of Ilaiyaraaja's classics. During the course of the event, Ilaiyaraaja lashed out at a security guard, who entered the stage to serve water to musicians. Ilaiyaraaja then turned toward the crowd and spoke harshly about the audience, who paid Rs 500 and Rs 1,000 for the concert and occupied the seats allocated to those who paid Rs 10,000. The composer threatened legal action against the veteran singer for using his songs in concerts without paying royalty to Ilaiyaraaja.
