As I made my way down the hallway clutching my stomach, I was desperately trying to convince myself the pain was just dinner not sitting properly. "It's a reasonably common thing and it's really important for women to understand that there's nothing they've done to cause this," Dr Baartz says. "People feel uncomfortable because they don't know how to respond to someone who has lost a baby," Ms Mead says. "I think it harks back to this idea that pregnancy, and miscarriage are women's business, or something that shouldn't be talked about," she says. "They know what it's like to walk into your home for the first time without your baby," she says.
