SC expresses concerns over Cheetah deaths at Kuno National Park, urges Centre to consider shifting them
India TodayExpressing dismay over the death of three cheetahs within two months of their translocation from South Africa and Namibia to Kuno National Park in Madhya Pradesh, the Supreme Court on Thursday urged the Central government to explore the possibility of relocating the cheetahs to Rajasthan. The Centre, represented by Additional Solicitor General Aishwarya Bhati, informed the court that a task force is already investigating the deaths and considering the possibility of shifting the cheetahs to other sanctuaries. Bhati mentioned that Mukundara National Park is ready to accommodate the cheetahs, and the task force is also exploring other national parks in Madhya Pradesh for potential relocation. The bench directed the apex court-appointed expert committee to provide its suggestions to the national task force on cheetahs within 15 days, to be taken into consideration.
