Man ends life after being allegedly assaulted by the Nilgiris police

A 48-year-old man from the Nilgiris died on Friday after he was allegedly assaulted by personnel from the Nilgiris district police. The man, before his death, was captured on video alleging that the police assaulted him in an effort to persuade him to accept that he had stolen a mobile phone. In a video which has been circulating on mobile messaging applications, Kumar alleged that the police tried to coerce him into accepting that he had stolen the phone. Kumar also alleged that he was assaulted by police personnel from the Emerald police station, which led him to consume poison.
