Edited excerpts: Interview with author Jeff Kinney of the Diary of a Wimpy Kid series From your first book in 2007 to now, how have reading habits, and the way children interact with books, changed? So I think it’s great when schools assign books that are challenging for children, that are about people from different parts of the world who live outside of the mainstream. I think book banning is sort of a recent phenomenon in the U.S. and it’s because books have fallen in the crosshairs of a very divided society.
