Coronavirus opens up Australia's digital divide, with many school students left behind

Ryan Hicklin is a student facing significant challenges. "The way that my school accesses, the way we talk to each other, when we're at home it was basically impossible for me," Ryan, a year 12 student at Western Port Secondary College, said. Western Port Secondary College principal Chris Quinn said Ryan's experience was not atypical. "I've been really proud of the way our school and community have responded during this remote and flexible-learning scenario, that's really unprecedented," he said. "For what I want to be — higher up the food chain basically — I've got to have a year 12 certificate," he said.
