TN budget 2019-20: Rs 2,000 crore for parking management project

Chennai: A comprehensive integrated parking management project will be implemented for Chennai by creating underground parking facilities, multi-level parking and on-lane smart parking under PPP mode to accommodate two lakh four-wheelers and two lakh two-wheelers at a cost of Rs 2,000 crore, Deputy Chief Minister O. Panneerselvam has said. TNIFMC has so far mobilised Rs 1,925 crore and is funding projects like augmenting the capacity of hydel projects, commerce hub, tourism, roads, modernisation of bus depots, affordable housing, multi level parking infrastructure, etc. Formation of reservoirs As it is important to take up long-term mitigation works in flood prone areas to prevent flood damage in future, as a special measure, the government would take up permanent flood mitigation works like formation of reservoir across Orathur tributary of Adyar river with inter-basin transfer canal for water supply augmentation and flood mitigation near Orathur village in Sriperumbudur taluk. Tail-end regulator across Upanaar river near Pitchavaram village in Chidambaram taluk will be constructed to arrest sea water intrusion and ten other works will be taken up at a total cost of Rs 284.70 crore in the coming year.
