Waqf Board working to strengthen property documentation

The Hindu

Even as the Waqf Amendment Bill, 2024, has been tabled in Parliament amidst uproar from the Opposition, the Telangana State Waqf Board has, over the past few months, initiated efforts to strengthen documentation related to properties under its custody. According to officials, the move is part of the requirement to upload documents pertaining to properties deemed waqf on the Waqf Management System of India portal — an initiative aimed at streamlining record keeping procedures and ensuring better tracking of litigation. This issue was underscored by a letter from former Chief Executive Officer Shahnawaz Qasim to the Telangana High Court Registry, in which he requested the implementation of an online case monitoring system for the Waqf Tribunal. The latest push to strengthen documentation is, therefore, not only an administrative measure but also a legal strategy which seeks to equip the Board to present stronger arguments in court by furnishing records that establish the waqf status of properties.
