‘High level of military tension’ with China over the last three years: Jaishankar
There has been a “high level of military tension” with China over the last three years, External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar has said, characterising the overall state of “very abnormal” relations between New Delhi and Beijing since the border clashes of 2020. We have, of course, this high level of military tension,” Dr. Jaishankar told an audience in New York during a conversation with former U.S. “One of the pleasures of dealing with China is that they never quite tell you why they do things,” Dr. Jaishankar said sarcastically to laughter from the audience. “At various points of time, the Chinese have given us different explanations, none of them is really tenable,” he said, adding that the countries’ troops have been trying to disengage since the border clash, and seven to eight of the forward deployments out of “maybe ten” had been resolved.
