Air travel can feel tricky for some, and a lot of things can go wrong while travelling, and it can be anxiety-inducing or frustrating. If you aren't informed within this time frame or if you miss a connecting flight on the same ticket, the airline should provide you with a new flight or compensation, along with a refund.
