Florida can open public schools to volunteer chaplains under law signed by DeSantis

Ron DeSantis signed a bill that will allow school districts to let volunteer chaplains counsel students. Florida school districts will soon have the option of allowing volunteer chaplains to counsel students under a bill signed this week by Republican Gov. The chaplains would “provide support, services, and programs to students as assigned by the district school board,” according to the law that takes effect July 1. That’s wrong.” Supporters say the legislation will provide another resource for children seeking guidance and pointed out that chaplains already serve in other government roles by working with police and serving in the military.
