Nepal spent over a million US dollars to re-measure Mount Everest's height, says official

The government of Nepal has spent USD 1.10 million or Rs 130 million to conduct surveys prior to determining the height of Mt. According to a report in PTI, around 80 people were involved in the work for re-measuring the height of the world’s highest peak, Deputy Director General of the Department of Survey Susheel Dangol said. A team led by Dangol conducted the Global Navigation Satellite System survey of Everest Peak on May 22, 2019. “The team of surveyors conducted a successful summit expedition of Mt Everest on May 22, 2019,” PTI quoted him as saying, adding that the group was led by Chief Survey Officer Khimlal Gautam. As per the PTI report, the Nepalese team conducted the survey from the southern side of Everest.
