Sabra Lane: 25 years ago New South Wales held a drug summit which led to the first medically supervised injecting centre in the southern hemisphere. Rachel Hayter: The 52 year old still uses both substances today but she's trying to stop while building a worthwhile life. Rachel Hayter: When the King's Cross injecting centre opened in 2001 it was the first in the southern hemisphere, the result of the country's first drug summit in 1999. Rachel Hayter: The drug summit held two days of forums last month in the regional NSW cities of Lismore and Griffith and two days of Sydney forums will start today and end tomorrow.
