Is Hyderabad better than Bengaluru, as Telangana minister KTR Rao claims?
India TodayTelangana industries and information technology minister K.T. “About 40 per cent of the people working in IT in Bengaluru are Telugu, and given an opportunity they would come back to Hyderabad or Visakhapatnam or other cities in the two Telugu states.” KTR also explained how IT was being promoted in the Tier-2 cities of Telangana. By the end of 2023, with the Congress back in power in Karnataka, we will restore the glory of Bengaluru as India’s best city.” Even as it stirred some sparring on social media, KTR replied: “Let Hyderabad and Bengaluru compete healthily on creating jobs for our youngsters and prosperity for our great nation.” And in a jibe at the BJP government in Karnataka, he added, “Let us focus on IT and biotechnology, and not the hijab and halal.” The Bengaluru-Hyderabad debate is blowing into a raging debate. However, Karnataka chief minister Basavaraj Bommai terms KTR’s comparison of the two cities as ridiculous, insisting that Bengaluru was “way ahead” and home to the largest number of start-ups and unicorns in India. Bengaluru cut 551 start-up deals worth $21.5 billion in 2021 while Hyderabad got 54 deals worth $0.5 billion in the same time, Rao declared, asking both KTR and Shivakumar to “pack their bags”.
