How stress is driving Delhi cops to suicide

Experts and former police bosses say increasing work pressure has triggered stress that shrinks social life and also leads to family and health problems. WHAT EXPERTS SAY Dr. Rajat Mitra, a clinical psychologist who has assisted the Delhi Police for over a decade, said, "A large number of policemen are suffering from depression due to long duty hours and encounters with negative events. Dr. Nand Kumar, professor, psychiatry, AIIMS, also said long working hours, sometimes 16 hours a day, and no fixed timings deprive cops of family time and that leads to frustration. "The department must start an initiative allowing cops to regularly consult either psychiatrists or seniors, instead of routine programmes that don't break the taboo.
