Endometriosis sufferer says years of pain were only ended by chance encounter with a gynaecologist

Nicola Dobson was 12 years old when she started suffering from debilitating pain that made her vomit and curl into a ball on the floor. Petition for more endometriosis clinics Endometriosis Australia medical director Anusch Yazdani said one in seven women would be diagnosed with endometriosis before the age of 50. "When the time comes for to conceive, it's not OK for to just be left like any other woman who hasn't been diagnosed with endometriosis," he said. Awareness and culture shift needed Dr Yazdani said the world had come a long way in terms of believing women's pain and learning about endometriosis, but there was still work to be done. "There's a cultural abnormality here in that women are actually expected to put up with more pain and with more issues … we need to not normalise abnormal pain," he said.
