Joe Flacco proves to be Browns’ best option at QB, even in losing effort to Rams
New York TimesINGLEWOOD, Calif. — One bad throw turned into an interception that went a long way toward sinking the Cleveland Browns on Sunday. Mostly, he played with the poise and presence you’d expect — stuff the Browns needed — from a 16-year veteran, and it was immediately clear that Flacco had both kept himself ready for this opportunity and done what had been necessary in the six real days of prep he had for this game. It remains possible that Stefanski could even run the rookie in as a change of pace and to run some of the pocket-moving stuff that’s continuing to flummox the Browns’ own defense, but Cleveland’s first game of December was about the big picture — and that picture is clear. The Stafford quick pass was the catalyst for the Rams scoring in just five plays following Flacco’s fourth-quarter interception to push their lead to eight. Moore and Flacco were teammates with the New York Jets over the last two seasons, and Moore had his best game with the Browns Sunday with four catches for 83 yards.
