In short: A free immunisation program to protect young babies and those at risk from RSV has been announced by the WA government. A free immunisation program to protect young babies and those at risk from RSV has been announced by the WA government. Respiratory syncytial virus results in around 1,000 babies being admitted to hospital in WA every year, can lead to severe complications and has been linked to an increased risk of developing asthma later in life. From April, babies aged under eight months, or up to 19 months for those at increased risk of severe RSV, will be eligible for free immunisations at birthing hospitals, GPs, community health clinics and Aboriginal medical services.
