What the Browns and new DC Jim Schwartz must (quickly) accomplish this offseason
New York TimesThe Browns’ search for a defensive coordinator lasted just over a week — and it reportedly ended with the first candidate they interviewed, Jim Schwartz. Over Schwartz’s final three seasons as the Eagles’ defensive coordinator, the Eagles were a 35 percent zone team and a 29 percent man-to-man team. Schwartz’s Eagles defenses finished among the top 10 in the league in third-down success rate, red-zone success rate and sacks over his five years there, when he coached three Pro Bowl players: safety Malcolm Jenkins, defensive end Brandon Graham and defensive tackle Fletcher Cox. The Browns did not formally dismiss any of their defensive assistants when they fired Woods the night of the season finale, but it’s generally assumed a new coordinator will remake the staff.
