Telangana Groups Demand Strict Enforcement of Second Saturday Holiday
Deccan ChronicleHYDERABAD: Representatives from the Telangana Private Teachers and Lecturers Federation, the Students’ Federation of India, and the Democratic Youth Federation of India, among others, submitted a memorandum to director of school education I.V. The leaders emphasised the immense workload on private school teachers, who often work for 8-10 hours daily without breaks, in addition to handling tasks like exam paper corrections at home. Some schools reportedly conduct Parent-Teacher Meetings on second Saturdays, defeating the purpose of the holiday, while others declare half-day schedules every Saturday, adding to the burden on teachers and students. The delegation, including TPTLF state convener A. Vijay Kumar, SFI state secretary T. Nagaraju, and DYFI state secretary Anaganti Venkatesh, warned of protests if schools continue to disregard the second Saturday holiday mandate.
