North Carolina women rout Arizona 63-45 to reach Sweet 16
Associated PressTUCSON, Ariz. — North Carolina’s players locked arms and kicked in unison as the band played the school fight song in an otherwise-deflated McKale Center. Kennedy Todd-Williams scored 19 points, Deja Kelly added 15 and North Carolina overwhelmed Arizona 63-45 Monday night to reach the Sweet 16 for the first time in seven years. Disjointed and tentative against North Carolina’s amoebic zone, the Wildcats shot 3 of 14, had four turnovers and didn’t score over the final 5:19 of the first quarter. North Carolina took advantage of the Arizona clanging, scoring the first nine points of the quarter to stretch a five-point lead to 23-9. BIG PICTURE North Carolina carried a dominating fourth quarter against Stephen F. Austin into a hostile environment and blew out a team that spent a good portion of the season ranked in the top 10.
