NBA suspends Ja Morant for at least 25 games: What happens if there’s another incident?

Grizzlies star Ja Morant has been suspended for a minimum of 25 games to start the 2023-24 season “for conduct detrimental to the league,” the NBA announced Friday. He added that he is particularly concerned about the potential of young people emulating Morant’s conduct, adding that “engaging in reckless and irresponsible behavior with guns will not be tolerated.” “Prior to his return to play, he will be required to formulate and fulfill a program with the league that directly addresses the circumstances that led him to repeat this destructive behavior,” Silver said. “Without getting into gun issues in terms of the propriety of owning guns and the use of guns, I think everyone agrees that gun safety is critically important and that guns aren’t toys,” Silver said. “So it’s something that I’m thinking a lot about, because, again, I’m not going to get into the specifics of the investigation but in fact, if you are live streaming something that, to the world looks exactly like a gun, and in a frankly, reckless manner, should it matter whether or not it’s a real gun?” At the time, Silver said he wouldn’t get into details about the length of the suspension, but he did say that he doesn’t want to just suspend him.
