India TodayExpressing grave concern over the "unregulated" transmission of fake news and false information on social media platforms, the Supreme Court has agreed to hear a plea seeking the transfer all cases challenging the amended IT Rules and Cable TV rules. The Supreme Court will be hearing the plea seeking to transfer all pending petitions in high courts that have challenged the Cable Rules Amendment 2021 and digital media IT Rules 2021. Institutions, judges are maligned on social media.” The CJI bench has also expressed concern over web portals and YouTube channels “running amuck with fake news and slandering of reputations in the absence of a regulatory mechanism”. The Supreme Court has also asked the Centre to look into the regulations of social and digital media after noting that the TV and print media have self-regulation as well as statutory regulations.
