What Backward classes panel chief said on OBC quota demand for Marathas

Maharashtra State Backward Class Commission Chairperson Sunil Shukre on Monday said that those seeking reservation for the Maratha community in the Other Backwards Classes should "study the Constitution". Speaking at Baithak, a conclave organised by India Today's sister channel Mumbai Tak, he said, "Quota or reservation is a policy matter. Shukre's remarks came amid protests by Maratha quota activist Manoj Jarange, who has been demanding that the Maratha community be included under the OBC reservation category. In February this year, Maharashtra Chief Minister Eknath Shinde approved the draft bill that proposed 10 per cent reservation for the Maratha community in education and government jobs.
