Labour mayoral candidate reported to police over alleged electoral law breach

The Telegraph

Police are looking into Tory claims that Labour’s candidate for Thursday’s critical West Midlands mayoral election wrongly claimed he lived in the area to get on the ballot paper. West Midlands Police said it was “assessing” allegations that Richard Parker may have breached electoral law after receiving a complaint from a local Conservative MP. A spokesman for Mr Parker, who is neck-and-neck in the polls with the Tory incumbent Andy Street dismissed the claims as “shameful political game-playing”. Gary Sambrook, the MP for Birmingham Northfield, has written to the force over claims the Labour candidate manipulated residency rules to become eligible for the contest.
