Judge orders release of transcripts in Nipsey Hussle murder case
A judge ruled Thursday that transcripts from the grand jury hearing of a man accused of killing rapper Nipsey Hussle should be released, saying that unsealing the documents would not jeopardize his right to a fair trial. Eric Holder’s public defender, Lowynn Young, however, had sought to keep the document secret until after his trial, saying that public release could jeopardize her client’s right to a fair and impartial trial. In court papers, The Times’ attorneys argued that Holder “does not offer a shred of evidence” to justify delaying the public’s right to access for months or even years to come. “Here, the modest pretrial publicity in this case does not even remotely compare with the publicity in the Martha Stewart trial, the Manson Family trial, the John DeLorean trial, the Watergate trials, or the Abscam trials,” Times attorneys argued in the filing.
