Apple signs deal with A24 for multiple films

LA Times

Apple Inc. has signed a multiyear agreement with New York studio A24 for several films, according to people familiar with the deal. The Cupertino, Calif., iPhone maker has signed several high-profile production deals, including a drama about a morning show starring Steve Carell and a series inspired by the life of NBA player Kevin Durant. The studio has won several Academy Awards for its films, including best picture for the coming-of-age movie “Moonlight,” best actress for Brie Larson in the drama “The Room” and best visual effects for the thriller “Ex Machina.” Representatives of A24 and Apple declined to comment on the deal. On Wednesday, Amazon Studios announced that horror film maker Jason Blum’s television company will produce eight thriller or darkly themed movies for the streaming platform.
