27 Chinese fighter jets enter Taiwan's air defence zone after tension flares over Pelosi's visit
India TodayTwenty-seven Chinese warplanes flew into Taiwan’s air defence zone on Wednesday, Taipei said, after US House Speaker Nancy Pelosi visited the self-governed island that Beijing considers its own territory, AFP reported. August 3, 2022 Taiwan maintained a defiant tone during Pelosi's visit while a furious China geared up for military exercises dangerously close to the island’s shores in retaliation for the visit. The Air defense identification zone is not the same as Taiwan’s territorial airspace but includes a far greater area that overlaps with part of China's own air defence identification zone and even includes some of the mainland. Before leaving Taiwan, Pelosi also met with several dissidents who have previously been in the crosshairs of China's wrath, including Tiananmen protest student leader Wu'er Kaixi, AFP reported.
