
How was Lorde's Splendour return to the festival that helped make her?
ABCIt goes without saying that a LOT has happened since Lorde last played Splendour In The Grass. Loading Frank Ocean's fill-in comes full circle Splendour 2013 was Lorde's first big festival show, and happened two months out from her releasing Pure Heroine. There's some samey moments in the middle that make you realise how much of her earlier material sits in the same mood and tone, only proving how dynamic Melodrama favourites like ‘Supercut’ and ‘Homemade Dynamite’ are. She shouldn't be afraid to go bigger The NZ auteur has taken this show all around the world and back again, and while the performances are powerfully polished, these moments of address come off as routine; a role that Lorde is awkwardly playing that goes against the authenticity she's trying to sell. She's a pop genius in the studio, and has incredible material - 'Tennis Court', 'Perfect Places' - but she's still yet to deliver them in big, convincing festival moments with consistency.
