HC commutes death sentence awarded to four to life sentence

The Madurai Bench of the Madras High Court has commuted the death sentence awarded by the Second Additional District and Sessions Court, Tirunelveli, to four persons to life term. In 2014, the Second Additional District and Sessions Court awarded death sentences to Ponnumani, Gurusamy, Muthukrishnan and Kaliraj and imposed a fine on them. The trial court also awarded life sentence to seven others. The court modified the death sentence imposed on the four men to life sentence and imposed a fine of ₹1 lakh each.
