Coroner recommends dog law changes after death of Jyedon Pollard in Cowra

ABC

A coronial inquest has made numerous recommendations surrounding dog ownership following the fatal mauling of a toddler in the New South Wales central west. Magistrate Forbes made five recommendations, including minimum heights for dog enclosure latches, licensing for dog owners of certain breeds and harsher penalties for breaches of animal regulations. After failing to do so, he then managed to open the latch into the dog enclosure at the rear of the accommodation site, where he was "attacked by one or two dogs", Magistrate Forbes said. Magistrate Forbes recommended changes to safety standards for dog enclosures to prevent infants or children from entering, similar to requirements that exist for outdoor pool fencing. Dog ownership recommendations Magistrate Forbes concluded that the motel owner's Rottweiler, Brutice, was the main aggressor in the attack on Jyedon.
